Michael T. Beachem

LC'73, GSE'78, '84


Michael's commitment to Rutgers has been remarkable. He has served in a number of senior roles in Rutgers' Graduate School of Education and Livingston College alumni associations. He was GSEAA president from 199698 and is currently editor of the GSEAA newsletter. He also helps to coordinate Livingston's theatre night. Michael's service to Rutgers extends beyond the alumni associations. He was a member of the university's Board of Trustees from 19992005. He also served as president of the Rutgers College Parents Association from 200102. Since 1979, Beachem has also been a leading member of Rutgers' Delta Xi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an international education honor society, serving as treasurer, vice president, and president. Michael's dedication to the learning disabled community is also exceptional. He has served as executive board member, vice president, and president of three learning disability associations in New Jersey over the past 19 years, and has presented many workshops at educational institutions and to parents and teachers. He has also been an elementary school teacher since 1973 and has taught fifth grade at Southwood Elementary School in Old Bridge since 1993. He received the Governor's Teacher Recognition Award in 2003 and was a Learning Disabled Associates of America Scholarship Award recipient.
