Dr. Coker is a dentist and an epidemiologist with expertise in big data and microbiome analysis/bioinformatics and investigation. She has been an investigator on several grants investigating the relationship between the infectious diseases, such as HIV, and the developing microbiome in infant populations, leading the data science and high level bioinformatics required to analyze the large datasets involved in this work. She has led several analyses at institutions at the University of Maryland and Dartmouth College with focus on the oral microbiome in neonates and young children in relationship to health outcomes. Most recently, she is a key investigator in a NIH/R01 project funded to investigate the influence that childhood HIV infection has on the oral microbiomes and tooth decay in Nigeria.
