Gentle George+,

Mother was head teller at the bank. I suppose the interest is in my
DNA. I am glad that you find the reports useful.

I am familiar with Dr. Sumner through the frequent citations of his
work on Virtuosity, and with this claim as published in Kendall's BLOG
at http://www.titusonenine.blogspot.com/

Dr. Sumners' tallies do not match mine for the same data. His
calculations for baptized members do not fit the official numbers from
the parochial reports as published in the Episcopal Church Annuals
(2003 for 2001 data; 1997 for 1995 data), which show an even larger
shrinkage of the BAPTIZED in the dioceses whose bishops consented:
(85,444, 5.38%) compared with only (7,153, .96%) shrinkage in the
dioceses whose bishops did not consent.

COMMUNICANT data for the same period shows almost the opposite
results: Dioceses whose bishops consented grew by 190,233 (18.89%) --
more than twice the growth in raw numbers in the dioceses whose
bishops did not consent, only 85,594 (16.18%).

Here is the complete data. I well could be mistaken, and I would
appreciate any corrections. [As revised on 8/25 at 15:15]
