I'm just getting in touch with the many things you have to offer. 
I'm most impressed to be able to find such thoughtful and 
impressive discourse on such a variety of materials related to 
the current commotion within the Episcopal church.

I am trying to find a loving, accepting church that does not 
limit its acceptance to those who rely on the literalistic 
interpretations of scripture. There are four churches here and a 
new one in the birthing process. They are full of beautiful 
people but I have so little in common with them that discussion 
of current tensions within the church is impossible. They are not 
interested in discussion except to reiterate the truth as they 
know it. I find that at best boring and at worst personally 
damaging. 

I'll keep looking and now I'll be able to follow your materials 
for assistance. After hearing from the pulpit for years about the 
damaging effects of Bishop Spong on the church, I have found his 
materials and am totally inspired. God bless you and your efforts 
to move the church into the next century.

Dear Louie,

Dora and I send you greetings. I love your letter responding to 
Lambeth. Your words and work are an inspiration to all of us!

There is much that is discouraging. That said, I spoke to an old 
friend who 20 years ago spoke of gay people as having "arrested 
emotional development" and was puzzled that I (his former parish 
priest) would serve as Integrity chaplain. But now he (by the 
way, his name is Gordon Morrison) has been ordained, and has 
served in Eutaw and Selma, Alabama. After doing an interim he is 
now in the Diocese of Kentucky, so you can see he has not been 
hanging out with the liberal pinkos. 

Anyway, this year he ran for General Convention as one who would 
support ordination of gay/lesbian folk and who would support 
blessings of same-sex unions. I felt like the Jerusalem Church 
must have felt when they heard that Saul was coming back. No, sad 
to say, he did not win a seat as Deputy. Still, he took a risk 
and no doubt alienated some of his parishioners. However, there 
was a strength to his voice as we talked on the telephone. I 
suspect that he is ready for anything and is excited to be living 
out the Gospel.

Wally, that is a fine liturgy.  I will continue to read it and review so that it can become the best.  I copied it to send to my Bishop (ELCA) and to two clergy, one Lutheran and one Episcopal.  You are on the right track.  God will indeed heal the rage in the people against his gifted homosexually oriented persons.  Each time I hear of another gay person bashed or beaten or embarrassed 
or taunted or tormented, I am saddened, angered, appalled.  Then I call out to God, shout out the Psalms to God, weep!!!One day your liturgy will be used in the Church.   Those pew people need to alter their opinions amd attitudes and join in your prayer. Charles

Great to find you! How freeing and joyful it is to see a more open 
and direct part of ecusa. And, as a bisexual, how good it is to 
feel more connected. 

Once a Roman, I have always found ecusa the one place in 
Christianity where I can be who I am (albeit there will always be 
some haters around), think what I want, and believe what I want 
within a tradition that recognizes a good deal of the huge 
diversity that is the Church.

In former years I tried to find the "pristine and primal" version 
of Christian liturgy. Imagine my surprise at finding a 1st century 
church which believed so many different things and practiced so 
many variations of worship! (A scandal to many--no conservative I 
know really accepts these facts.) That was the end of my search 
for conservative certainty and an easy place to stand.

So it is good to meet you, Lutibelle. Thanks for sticking your 
neck out. I look forward to a most informative relationship.

I edited the journals of 20s novelist Glenway Wescott, CONTINUAL 
LESSONS, and now have a full draft of a biography of Wescott, 
which includes his personal connections to many gay and lesbian 
writers and artists throughout the century. I'm now cutting and

Elizabeth Keaton recently sent me your advice to Lesbigays who 
are considering ordination.  http://andromeda.rutgers.edu/~lcrew/lbgaspirants.html. I have talked to my rector and hope 
to start the process soon.  I am not really sure how my bishop 
(+Paul Marshall) feels on the issue as he is relatively new and 
was not at Lambeth.  Any info you have on Paul would be 
appriciated, although I have heard through the grapevine that he 
will ordain Gays and Lesbians (I do NOT have confirmation on 
this.)
