I am a student in your class and while I am surpose to be writing

Remembered meeting you at the Southeastern Lesbian and Gay conference in Chapel Hill NC back in the late 70's (I think it was) and was delighted to hear that your marriage was strong and you were happy.  You seemed very much in love then, and I was hoping that your love would see you through the years.  Still Episcopalian myself, I am now married with my partner (Jewish) of 8 years, and we have two children (through adoption).  Had the ceremony at my church in Raleigh with the Bishop's knowledge and acceptance -- and the clear understanding no clergy would perform or participate in it.  235 wedding guests and a beautiful ceremony.  We had two friends officiate, my partner's lifelong Jewish best friend (straight), and an Episcopalian lesbian friend who is now in seminary.  One of the best part of the whole thing was what it did for our children, then 4 and 11, in terms of making them feel more secure, and seeing the church filled with people celebrating our relationship.  We !
 went into it thinking we could not do it at my church, and with the goal of avoiding an angry political experience, and somehow having this ceremony be a blessing not only for ourselves but others as well.  Sounds dreadfully egocentric, but we felt that if the Spirit was in it, it could be.  It was and in several ways we could never have anticipated.  Well, best to you.  I am so glad you are together and happpy and thriving.  It takes work doesn't it, but so very worth it.  Shalom!
