General Convention Information

Please comment:

You may add my e-mail address to my listing as a Deputy to the
2000 GC from Pennsylvania. Also, our other new Lay deputy should
be listed as Joann Jones, Esq. (She was the 4th lay deputy
elected if you intended to show them in that order; otherwise the
order is correct.) In our clergy deputation the Ven. John Midwood
is NOT a new deputy and both Roger Broadley and Nancy Wittig have
finished their terms as Deans and are not therefore using the
"Very" in front of "Rev." anymore. Feel free to e-mail me if you
need any further information about us. Thanks for the good work
posting all this information. I hope to be in your diocese on
Saturday for an ordination (Lucy Ann Dure).

December 7, 1998

Dear Louie:

We continue to work with and pray for Bishop Michael Ingham as
he struggles with the question of approving the narrow approval
by Diocesan Synod of the Blessing of Same Sex Unions. He meets
with his "Council of Advice on the Blessing of Same Sex Unions"
this week and he will make his announcement in January or
February. Archbishop Michael Peers has asked him to wait for a
few months, but the Diocesan Council have said no, this isssue
is too urgent and he must give his decision soon.

Thanks for your listing on the Pastoral Statement, I am sending
to Michael.

I expect to have a web page up for Integrity/Vancouver in the
early New Year with links from Integrity.

Best Wishes for Christmas and a Happy New Year.

William Wood
(founding President of Integrity/Vancouver)

P.S. St. Nicolas Day is the anniversary of Fr. Bill Rorkes
death (Nov. 6, 1990.

I found your page to be very informative; however, I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'm trying to find an old friend; her name is Anne West (it used to be Kersting) and she is an episcopal priest. She is married to a priest named Scott West, and she used to work at St.John's church in Huntington, WV. I haven't seen her since her wedding, which was in '91(?) but i would love to talk to her again. Do you know how I might find her? if so, please e-mail me at wren888@aol.com. thanks for your time!

Please keep up your good work. Here in Ft. W. it's very back-
words and many seem to want to keep their heads in the sand.

But to often it comes back and bites them, i.e. like what
happened to St. John's over the last two years. St. John's
has findly got out of that MESS. But so many churchs here
are under the wrong "Mind Set" as Iker. He and his friends
has killed so many good people. Now I and so many others
understand what it was like in the darkages, for it is now
in Ft. W. Dioceses. Randy Hillman

Dr. Crew, Quean Lutibelle, my sorrow and anger are an abcess
that has been opened slightly today, thank you for your work and
thank Goddess for you soul. I am crying as I read The Agony And
The Ecstacy. I have been researching a story for Out in the
Mountains on the support shown for gays and lesbians by
Vermont's Bishop. I had no idea there was anyone like you
standing against the dragon in any of the organized christian
churches. I am a refugee, a fugitive, I miss my religion. I have
tried others but I guess I was too seated in christianity to
move on. I didn't believe I had the strength to stay and fight
as you do. I lost it all when I realized I was a lesbian, I felt
I had to change my spiritual orientation too. God I've missed
you, her. Thank you again, and goddess bless you, in my heart I
thank you for being that aspect of her that never gives up, that
waits patiently yet with flair, that shares in the beauty of
nature, that is not passive but shines with the brilliant light
of a lily in the sun. You've helped me.
Cleo...with warm goodwill...

First of all, thank you for your witness in our Church. I
appreciate your voice and your determination in seeing that this
Church does not forget nor ignore those of her children who are
lesbian and gay. Secondly, thanks for all the great stats. I am
the curate at a parish in the Diocese of Georgia. The Rector is
a great believer in reports and statistics. You have helped me
met his requests on several occassions. Question: Do you have any
statistical info on those who still use (as we do,
unfortunately!) the '28 BCP?
Question: In the statistical listing regarding Associates of
Religious Communites you have added "or Martha?" to the Community
of St. Mary. Why? I am an associate of the CSM, Sewanee Convent
chapter. Hope you had a great trip. Welcome home. Peace and
blessings, Brent Norris.

I had written to your Diocesan Bishop sometime last year with
regard to what issues would be presented at the Lambeth
Conference as to the need to openly support Gays and Lesbians in
Ministry.

I was just following up after visiting a website which dealt
with the support given by Archbishop Tutu...

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on the
work which you have engaged yourself in advancing the need for
us to express our sexuality.

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to e-mail from Africa.
I read your entries each when I arrived home from work. On
Thursday morning, 3AM MST, I woke up and couldn't go back to
sleep. When I asked the Lord who I needed to be praying for your
name came to mind.
I hope I have the pleasure of meeting you in Denver at General
Convention!!!
Kathy Glenn speaks so highly of you and while I have only read a
small portion of what you have posted on your web page, I
appreciate your willingness to share.
I'm am serving on our diocesan executive council and at our
November meeting security for General Convetion 2000 came up for
discussion. Part of what was shared was the protestors from KS
who went to Casper,WY to march at Matthew Shepherd's memorial
service being present in Denver in 2000. I feel very strongly
that we all need to be praying NOW and have been asked to write a
prayer for use. Any suggestions you might have would be
appreciated.
You are a remarkable witness to what we as a church have been
called to -- loving one another no matter what.
I hope you are getting some rest now that you have returned to
the US!

Many thanks for your ongoing witness. I am a non-Anglican member of Integrity Philadelphia (I'm an elder in an O&A United Church of Christ congregation). Your resources - particularly your Lambeth and WCC postings - have been of great help. I shared your WCC diary with the moderator of our local chapter of the UCC Coalition for L/G/B/T Concerns (she doesn't have internet access and so I pull postings from various sites and pass them along to her).

Thanks again for this wonderful site. I hope you've been able to rest up from your WCC pilgrimage.

We are beginning an Integrity chapter here, in the Hawaiian
islands. Although the land of "aloha", much needs to be done to
insure that all people are genuinely welcomed into and healed by
the church we love.

Thanks for being with us through the years!

I have found your poetry and stories very moving. I appreciated
your account of your marriage.
Who am I? I'm a straight woman who often feels close to gay men,
thanks be to God, for I have several wonderful friends thereby.
Probably I qualify as a "fag hag". I learned that term from
Armistead Maupin, and I have since heard it used to describe
someone I know. I have wondered about the despicable connotation
apparently attached to it. If it's a recognized type, what are
the dangers to be avoided? Would you have any comments on that
generally undiscussed subject?

----

L. responds:

Be very careful with any stigma that you embrace. It is possible to redeem
words with stigma, as my QUAKEr ancestors did, as METHODists did, even as
CHRISTians did, and as QUEERS like me are trying to do. You must be very
careful not to buy into the negative connotations, and they are much
stronger than any one of us or our idiolects. With regard to "Fag Hag," my
personal question would be "Why on earth would anyone want to be a
'hag', and why is it not stigma aplenty to risk just being a "friend of
lesbians and gays." Some whom I have seen embrace "fag hag" for themselves
have done so in part to participate in gay camp with a role of more than
just observer. Camp is a rare 'party' activity at most in the lives of most
gay persons I work with and worship with, and I would feel very sorry for
anyone who felt she needed to play an essentially 'slumming' role to be my
friend, since I don't slum nor live in one.

But I am old fashioned and have no desire at all to play Miss Manners on
this issue.

Joy to you!

Lutibelle/Louie

P.S., I you want to sample my own Camp, I suggest you visit

         http://newark.rutgers.edu/~lcrew/luti_faq.html

You don't have to be gay or a 'fag hag' to practice Camp.

I have been looking, without success, for data on the average
length of homosexaul and heterosexual partnerships, any extra
partnership activities, and children in homosexual
partnerships. I am trying to prepare a paper to address the
current Arkansas policy against homosexual fosterparents and if
I can find some of this data it would be helpful. Do you know
of any sources or have any ideas about sources which might be
investigated.

It was good to see you in Little Rock. I thought that that
meeting went quite well and you were a wonderful gift to us in
that meeting.
Thanks for the help.

Ann
