I am very happy to see all this material accessible to people 
all over the world.  It strengthens one's determination and 
ability to respond to the perpetuation of discrimination and 
persecution of gay and lesbian people.  I have been an avid 
reader of Abp Spong's books and admire his common sense and 
clear vision.  It gives me hope for a new shape of the Christian 
church and humanity. But how long will it take to generate 
acceptance and a new understanding of human sexuality when 
incendiary material continues to be dropped off in the suburban
letter boxes.  I received a booklet called Doom City (Chick 
Publications, P>O Box 662, Chino, CA 91708 USA).  It was a
truly offensive misrepresentation of the story of Lot at Sodom.
It scandalously sensationalised the biblical text.  
I felt compelled to comment but feel it is just a drop in the 
ocean.  It is therefore a great comfort to see this web-page
and know that there is a great force at work to change attitudes.
Thank you.  If only my late husband could have experienced this
affirmation.  He was never able to acknowledge his homosexuality
until it was too late and he became HIV positive.

Good Luck Louie.  It looks to me like fundamentalism has 
conquered the Anglican Communion for the time being.  I'm really 
sorry, but it wasn't a suprise either.

My path and call has led me out of the ECUSA and the Anglican

I was on the verge of tears after reading your site.  At the same 
time I am filled with hope at your eloquence and faith and at all 
of the visitors to this site.  I have been fortunate to be part 
of loving and supportive communites in the Diocese of California 
and of Los Angeles, but I often feel daunted by the negativity I

Hi Louie,

Pam Darling suggested I might find an update on Lambeth (about 
which I have just heard on GayDads) so I came to see. I reckon 
it's about time I got involved in the ole Piscopal Church again. 
Very disappointed that our own PB abstained. Highly discouraging 
after the last GenCon and the reports I heard of that.

Thank you, and God, for your courage.  I, too, believe God loves 
everyone, no exceptions, and calls us to do the same, to the best 
of our ability.  My problem is with people who name themselves 
Christians and don't even try to love.  Whatever happened to "do 
justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God"?  And "judge 
not, that ye be not judged"?  It's too bad that so many 
Christians make pagans look good.

Louie,
The group Women at General is beginning to meet for this year. We will be discussing ways to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first women to graduate GTS with an MDiv next year. I have pulled your statistics on Women Clergy as a resource for them, and for realism. Your numbers and their suggested implications dovetail well with Adair Lummis recent work in Clergy Women: An Uphill Calling. I think the women will be very chagrined to realize how few women are bona fide rectors. My hunch is that many more are interims, priests-in-charge --  in a word, the church's "temps". Perhaps, this is, as they say, the way to get congregations to accept women's leadership but little study has been done to see how the odds are improved for other women if the parish has been served by female clergy as temps. My hunch is the congregation simply rationalizes the female clergy as just that, a temp, and they do not seriously have to entertain permanent female leadership. I'd like to think I'!
