I have always appreciated your efforts to get information out & I
love your sermons. I am a priest in the diocese of New Jersey. I
work as an interim & am between positions now. I am working on
the continued efforts to support the bishop & restore the diocese
to the appropriate place in the Church.

My brother Enrique and myself are members of the Saint Andrews
Episcopal Church, Mayaguez, PR. Recently, my brother Enrique
traveled to Cyprus, Greece and some other places in the
Mediterranean area. On a tour he was able to see a magnificent
anglican church in Athens, Greece, names as Saint Paul. He is
looking for a way to contact the priest in charge, and requested
me to do some searches on the web toward getting this information
for him. I have been unsuccessful on finding it. I sent you an
e-mail stating this and asking for your help. We will appreciate
if you can help us. Thanks.

Louie Crew responds:

Thanks. I share your concerns, as you can see in the letter that I sent
to the Archbishop.

Best wishes.
Lutibelle/Louie

----

Easter, 1998

Most Rev. George Carey
Archbishop of Canterbury
Lambeth Palace
London
England SW1P 3NE

Gentle Archbishop,

All violence is wrong. As a gay Christian, I have often encountered those
who would silence me or disrupt what I have to say. I grieve over the
abuse you faced in your Easter sermon.

Let all speak the truth in love and respect for those who differ with us.
Otherwise, nothing is gained even though the whole world bend to our
perspective.

Joy anyway. Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!

Faithfully,

Quite a variety! Now at last I know who the infamous LCrew is!

FYI re the lists of seminary graduations, Berkeley and Yale are
often used interchangably so it might be appropriate to combine
them (means there are more of them than it appears at first
glance!)

Dear Louie, I was looking for the bishop coadjuter info and got side-tracked. I work at Jewish Vocational Service (E. Orange and Whippany, NJ) as a career counselor, live in Morris Township, and am a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Morris Plains (Vestry, Growth and Communications). My husband has recently built a web page for our church, but is it in its infancy. I am also the mother of 3 children, 2 of whom I raised and one with whom I was reunited after nearly 30 years in 1996 (a 30 year secret from most of my world). All three are involved with paint, 2 as artists and one as a painting contractor. Your writing course sounds very appealing. However as a perpetual student and career changer, I have promised my husband I will not take another course for at least a year. (BA, Chemistry 1964 Douglass College; MBA, 1979 Lehigh University; MA, Counseling 1996 Montclair State University but continued to take course through 1997 in case I ever decide to get licensed)!
. Am also a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for 2 children and just began cooking at Eric Johnson House through St. Paul's Mission and Service Commission. What I'm trying to say is that I am glad I stumbled on your home page as I see many areas of connections. Hope we meet sometime.
Love, Bobbi

I haven't looked at anything yet. I was a subscriber to Anglican
for over a year and somehow lost it when my computer went down.
Since I'm a full-time student and full-time worker I decided that
might be best for my continued sanity, but was feeling lonely for
my St. Sam's friends (I mostly lurked) tonight. Can't seem to get
into the info about the list, but recognized your name. HI! I
work for an ecumenical organization here in Michigan for the AIDS
Pastoral Care Network, so am interested in Lesbigay issues as
well as religious resources for pastoral care.

I'm working on re-designing our church website, and also taking a

Professionally I am a Professor of Education at Los Angeles

our Media Arts Committee and I sit on the Academic Senate.

BTW, A friend of mine, Dr. Karen Smith, runs the Learning

Though I live in Vermont, I am child of Diocese of Newark.
The first Vermonter that I knew was the Bishop who
confirmed me, Bishop Washburn whose Confirmation Record I
found in the Diocesan Archives. At the same time as he was
Bishop of Newark, a New Jersey native was Bishop of
Vermont, Vedder VanDyck.

I served on the Search Committee for our Current Bishop and
know what work it can be. You have some good candidates,
one of whom was in our process and made it to the final
cut.

My prayers are with you in this election.

Reading the latest things Bishop Spong is saying.

Please comment:

While I am "straight" in sexual orientation terms, I am a
heterosexual crossdresser. I am therefore interested in all the
discussions going on pertaining to the Church and all who are
gifted to be "different" in some significant way. As a Clinical
Psychologist and as a student of theological issues, I have, of
course, formed significant positions on these issues. I have been
greatly inspired by Bishop Spong's discourses particularly
relative to historical perspectives of the faith and especially
his discussions of reading the Bible with a Jewish perception.
These have influenced me greatly.

Interested to see what is going on since we only get the edited highlights of debates over here. I must admit though, that since releasing his 12 Thesis, Bishop Spong's arguments from a Christian basis seem very thin and poor now -- quite honestly, he may be a bishop, but he doesn't show any signs in his latest doctrines of being Christian, and I guess his arguements can only be weakened by this...

Glad to be connected with your page and helpful resources. -
I have a particular request at this moment: I understand that in
the Living Church Bp. Spong has written 12 points about his point
of view and challenges anyone to debate with him. - I'd like to
find out how to see this on the internet...it doesn't seem to be
on the Diocese of Newark's page, and I don't have any listing for
The Living Church. - By the way, I am in almost total agreement
with Bp. Spong, and am excited by his new boo.- I'm a retired Ep.
priest by the way. Thanks.

While my instincts could likely have told you the same things, it was nice to see it in print. I have applied for some 35 positions in the church in the past year and been part of the "semi or finals" in at least 20 of those places. In two of the parishes women were called. A parish in Madison where one of my close friends was called (and it was exactly the right parish for her) and the parish to which I have this month been called, Good Shepherd in Acton MA. Several times 5 of the 6 finalists were women and the man was the one called. This form of sexism--like all "isms" and phobias--is the most difficult to combat, put into statistics or bring to the surface. Your work is a beginning--thank you!! Life is a glory to be appreciated not a problem to be solved, as contemporary people are just starting to realize. ------------ LC responds: Of course there is mystery! As an AngloCatholic, I rejoice in mystery. I have just returned from a service ot remark the Ascension. I'm puzzled why you would think I do not honor mystery. I am a Christian. I am the author of more than 600 published poems.... I have studied and valued dead languages. I profess literature, most of it written long ago. I'm intrigued that you would think that I live solely within the contemporary moment. True, I am not afraid of it, but principally because of my mysterious connections to the past. It helps keep me in touch with the issues that I'm interested in following (e.g., Righter trial, Spong's Pre-Lambeth letters). A new interest for me is Spong's challenge for public discussion about Christianity for the third millennium. I noticed that Spong's information page had a little info about this. But I had hoped I would find some sort of news thread where I might even be able to present a couple of questions to him and perhaps read some questions and responses from others on the topic. He's probably too busy for this, I imagine.

Lutibelle/Louie responds:

Some of us are looking into the possibility of a chat room, but given various summer schedules, that may not come off ground.

If you are interested, I would be glad to add your email address to the mailer for the Diocese of Newark. It is not a discussion list or chat area, but some thoughtful responses to Bp. Spong's theses are beginning to appear.

Let me know if you would like to be added. I ask anyone who makes that request to identify her/his local parish, snail address and phone number, but just for my own records in list maintenance. Write to me at lcrew@newark.rutgers.edu

Thank you for your interest in my bihsop, and thank you for signing my guest book.

Joy!

It is obvious that certain trends are discernable from your numbers yet such observations are not made. It is clear that the number of female ordinations have peaked over the years yet it is not clear if this an a trend or not. Any comments or predictions on your part would be appreciated not only by me but by other viewers of your web page.

Lutibelle/Louie replies: I may attempt some interpretations as I deal with the data a bit longer, but right now I am still cruncing the statistics. One of the features of cyber documents is that they are never finished; but on the other hand, they are constantly evolving. For example, I am hesitant to draw any conclusion that ordinations of women have peaked until I get a clearer sense of how long the lag is between the time of ordinations and the time that almost all of them have turned up in The Clerical Direcotory. I suspec that there is enough of a delay for portion of them that counts of any sort will seem to have peaked before the last 2-3 years. But I don't know the answer to that yet.
