I have forgotten to be surprised, but not to grieve. Most disturbing to me are the Bishop's suicide over an adultrous affair, and the embezzlement at the denomination's highest level. Have we forgotten what sin is? Have we forgotten what godly repentence is? The responses of the late Bishop, and the embezzling treasurer to their respective sins were not the responses of a Christian who realizes he/she has has offended a holy God, and brought disgrace upon Christ and His body,the Church. My guess is that the tempreture is a little warmer now, and not undeservedly so. As practicing Christian (I'm not sure I've got it right quite yet) and Episcopalian, I am deeply concerned with the amount of intellectual energy given to issues that divide our communion. How many children were beaten by their heterosexual parents while the bishops soaked their aching bones? Why is the coupling of men and women so important an issue when, in every country in the world, children die of neglect and starvation?
