Math 251, sections 16 17 18 (fall 2006)

General

Teaching assistant: Eric Rowland,
Office: Hill Center 618 (Busch Campus)
Office Hours: Tuesday 12–1:30pm, Thursday 2–4pm, and by appointment

Section 16 meets F2 10:20–11:40am BE 213
Section 17 meets F3 12:00–1:20pm BE 101
Section 18 meets F4 1:40–3:00pm BE 101

There will generally be a quiz at the end of each recitation section. If you cannot attend your recitation section, you may attend another on the same day. I will only allow a make-up quiz if you have a doctor's note (, and the quiz must be made up before the following week's recitation). If you know that you will be unable to attend any of the three sections, you may contact me to take the quiz early.
I'll drop your lowest quiz grade at the end of the semester. If you've also turned in all the homework, your next lowest quiz grade will be replaced by a homework grade. The best way to succeed in this class is to do and understand all the homework.

Maple assignments

If you would like to ask me a Maple question by email, please...
(1) Be as specific as possible regarding the problem you are experiencing.
(2) Copy your code into the email rather than attaching the worksheet file; the version of Maple I use at home is slightly older than that available in the computer labs, and unfortunately there is no backwards compatibility.

The fourth Maple assignment was due on December 1st. You should have received two regions by email. An information page for the assignment can be found here. Also, note that the grader is not a mind reader. Make sure all answers to all questions are clearly marked (possibly even boxed) to avoid unnecessary point loss.

The third Maple assignment was due on November 3rd. You should have received two polynomials by email. An information page for the assignment can be found here.

The second Maple assignment was due on October 20th. You should have received a vector function by email. An information page for the assignment can be found here.

The first Maple assignment was due on September 29th. You should have received an email with your own personal data points to work with. A sort of guide page for the assignment can be found here.

The first recitation section (on September 8th) met in the computer lab in Tillett Hall (PC IML - 119). The lab can be viewed online here.

Before the dawn of calculus...

Inspired by recent quizzes, I have made up a short list of Basic material you need to know (that you should have learned long ago) in the form of exercises. The answers can be found in any calculus book. But guess what — you can't use books on quizzes and exams! So you need to memorize them or have a quick way of deriving them.
