Programs and Services for LGBT Communities

Annual Programs

Advising and Referral: The Director offers advising to individual students and student groups. To request assistance, please make an appointment by phone or by email to meet with the Director.

(A student experiencing or concerned about bias, homophobia or other acts of hate, should call or visit the office as soon as possible and speak to the Director who will assist you or refer you to the appropriate staff. Please also see the section of this website devoted to Bias Prevention and the list of staff who comprise the Bias Prevention Committee and who are also trained to assist in the event of a bias incident. The Director will also follow up to be certain the situation has been properly addressed. The referral system is especially helpful to students who are unfamiliar with the University's resources.)

Safety.net.Q: "Safety.net.Q" is a network of New Brunswick Campus administrators who will assist Rutgers LGBTQQ students who become homeless as a result of their expressed sex or gender identities. Please contact the office in the unfortunate event that you, or a student you know, have become homeless because of sexual and/or gender identity expression.

Training and Consultation: The director offers consultation and training on LGBTQQ issues to students, staff, and faculty. Requests may be made by contacting the Director via phone or email.

“On Q”: "On Q" is an experiential training opportunity for Liaisons for LGBT Students, or those who wish to become Liaisons. We encourage all student-centered departments to send representatives to this training, either in the fall or spring semester, so that you might be educated on LGBT issues to effectively and sensitively work with LGBTQQ students.
“Queer Shoulders to the Wheel”: This speakers bureau program was active 1995-'96 and is in the process of being revived. It features staff, faculty, and others from Rutgers and the larger metropolitan communities speaking on a variety of issues relevant to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer issues. The project’s purpose is to educate the campus community and to change pervasive negative views of the queer world, homosexuality, bisexuality, same-sex relationships, and gender identity. Please contact the office for further information and updates.
