Research Opportunities

Undergraduate Students

I offer select undergraduate students research assistant positions in the Smoking Cessation Laboratory.  There are three types of opportunities for undergraduates in the laboratory that vary in terms of commitment and compensation.  All students have the chance to participate in diverse aspects of research, including: interacting with research participants, collecting data, entering and managing data, participating in regular lab meetings and discussions, and possibly delivering treatment, analyzing data, or designing new studies.

Volunteers: Students work in the laboratory a minimum of 4 hours per week to gain valuable research experience and prepare them for graduate or medical school.

Research Credit Research Assistants: Students seeking a more intensive training experience and wishing to explore the empirical literature related to a specific health or addiction related topic may enroll in an independent study research course for credit.  Students are expected to spend 9-12 hours per week on work related to this 3-credit course.

Casual Part-Time Research Assistants: A limited number of paid research assistant positions requiring 10-20 hours per week are available during the school year and the summer.  Students are paid an hourly wage based on their work experience.

NOTICE: We are currently accepting applications for research assistants. When applying, please email Dr. McCarthy your resume and schedule and specify which type of position you seek.
