About CIRU
The Confucius Institute at Rutgers University (CIRU), as the first and only Confucius Institute in New Jersey, was established to promote quality Chinese language and culture education and to serve as a resource center for Chinese studies in New Jersey. CIRU is formed in partnership with Jilin University in China and with the support from the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).
Rutgers President Richard L. McCormick announced the opening of the CIRU at a ceremony on November 9, 2007. After several months’ preparation, CIRU began operation at its office on the New Brunswick Campus in May 2008. The institute aims to fulfill the need of the various constituencies in New Jersey for information about China and to promote excellence in Chinese language and culture programs within the university and among the general public.
CIRU also strives to enhance and expand scholarly activities of the university in the broad area of Chinese studies. The institute is fully committed to facilitate the expansion and diversification of the university's outreach activities on China and East Asia. 中文简介
